Lebanese authorities were investigating Monday a roadside explosion which damaged a van and a car in Taanayel, east Lebanon, security sources said.
The sources, speaking to The Daily Star on condition of anonymity, said no one was hurt by the 10:07 a.m. blast that shattered the windows of a black BMW and a white van that were passing by.
According to a preliminary investigation the bomb was placed along the international highway in Taanayel, the sources said.
They said that while the car came to stop when the bomb exploded, the van, which had at least a dozen passengers on board, continued its journey toward the Bar Elias road and then entered Syria via the Masnaa border crossing.
A Daily Star journalist at the site saw the BMW with its windows blown out. The car owner identified himself as Jirjes Bashalani, from nearby Mraijat.
The journalist said the blast left a 40-centimeter deep hole in the road.
