representing the middle east in red bull music academy
marc codsy raises the lebanese flag in toronto
Young Lebanese musician Marc Codsy participated in this year’s edition of the
Red Bull Music Academy held in Toronto, Canada, bringing the Middle Eastern participation to its second, two years in a row. Marc was chosen for this mission and showed an active presence among musicians and artists from more than 30 countries, taking part in the 10th edition of the Academy.
Codsy considered his participation as a “unique experience” and stressed on the high level of the participants coming from all around the world, carrying out a series of open sessions in a friendly and cozy atmosphere in a building with fully equipped studios. In brief, “everything was provided so we only had to care about music” stated Codsy. The event was marked by the support of famous musicians and producers that Marc described as “Living Legends”, who gave lectures and managed discussion sessions.
Music has no limits. Despite the wide participation from all over the world and the cultural variety, “we all felt the same way: commitment towards music” said Marc. “Everyone had his own style, however, this participation allowed us to enrich ourselves from each other’s experience” he explained.
Most participants were surprised Lebanon was represented in the Red Bull Music Academy but they were mostly surprised by the music quality and variety in Lebanon. Moreover, Marc explained that a Lebanese is characterized by his awareness of all happenings around the world and his wide knowledge. “I personally could show that in the Academy in Toronto through my interaction with all participants and the information I had regarding their countries and their cultures” he said. However, those Lebanese characteristics, according to Marc, lack the support and encouragement necessary to promote them internationally. The Lebanese musician introduced his music and rhythms to the world through the academy and is now about to produce an album for his band “Lumy” in Düsseldorf, Germany, awaiting music tours in Europe and Beirut in the near future.
