UN personnel are in Damascus trying to persuade the Assad regime to allow weapons inspectors to investigate alleged chemical weapons attacks, AFP reported Thursday.
Both sides have leveled accusations that their opponents have used chemical weapons in the lengthy conflict.
AFP reported Ake Sellstrom and Angela Kane, the U.N. personnel, were scheduled to have two days of talks in Damascus.
The New York Times said the scope of the investigation has been a sticking point in negotiations. While the U.N. is requesting broad access, the Syrian regime wants to restrict the inquiry to a single alleged use of the nerve agent sarin on March 19 near Aleppo.
