Jordan's Al-Ahliyya Amman University is seeking to open an extension in Israel in spite of pressure from various Arab elements, including within Jordan itself, Israel's Army Radio reported Monday.

University heads met Monday with the Israeli education minister Limor Livnat and asked for her blessing to such a move, the report added.

Maher Hurani represented the University at the meeting, which included representatives of Israel's higher education council, who are supposed to evaluate the proposal. During the meeting, Hurani said Syrian students learing at Al-Ahliyya Amman University threatened to quit in case it opens a branch in Israel.

Amman University is the first private university established in Jordan in 1990. It is a member of the Association of Arab Universities. (Albawaba.com)
