At least 727 Iraqi Peshmerga fighters have been killed since June in battles against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists, Iraq’s semiautonomous Kurdish Regional Government said Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Peshmerga, around 3,564 Peshmerga were also injured and 34 soldiers were also listed as missing in the battles in Iraq and Syria.

The ISIL militants are said to be in control of large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria since last June.

While the Iraqi army has battled ISIL militants in the western and northern provinces of Iraq, other areas of the country have been the target of relentless ISIL bombing campaigns, assassinations and attacks against civilians and security personnel.
