Mossad agents were tracking some of the perpetrators of the September 11 attacks for an extended period of time and told the CIA and other U.S. government officials of their suspicions, but were ignored and expelled from the US, according to an investigative report in the German weekly newspaper Die Zeit, Israel's Channel 2 television reported Wednesday night.

According to the report, in December 2000, Mossad agents rented an apartment in Florida nearby the apartment of two of the eventual hijackers and discovered they were training to become pilots. They also reportedly tracked two of the other terrorist pilots. Even though the agents did not have concrete information about the terrorists' plans for September 11, they told the CIA a terrorist cell in Florida was planning to carry out a major attack, the German paper reported.

Meanwhile, Israeli ambassador to the U.S. Danny Ayalon rejected Thursday the German report. Ayalon said in an interview to Army Radio that there are no Mossad agents operating in the United States. (Albawaba.com)
