Libya is not going to invite Hamas political chief, Khaled Mashaal and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to attend the Arab summit to be held in Tripoli at the end of March. Arab sources told Lebanon's Al Akhbar newspaper that reports on the possibility of the presence of Meshal and Ahmadinejad "is now threatening the presence of Arabic leader at the opening session." indicating that the Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi to the success of the summit, which will move him from the chairmanship of Qatar.
A Libyan diplomatic source has asserted that his country has no intention of inviting Ahmadinejad or Meshaal, pointing out that the invitations will be only sent to the heads of Arab countries without exception. Earlier, a senior Arab official said that Arab League chief Amr Moussa conveyed to a number of Arab leaders that the his organization had decided not to invited Iran to the upcoming Arab summit in Libya next month for the first time in a long time.
Palestinian sources stressed earlier this week that the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas decided to boycott the summit if Mashal is present. Reports also indicated that several Gulf countries, backed by Egypt, refused to invite Ahmadinejad to the summit.
