Jordan and Egypt are "seriously" considering returning their ambassadors to Tel Aviv at the end of July, the Al Quds Al Arabi newspaper said Monday. According to the report, the US administration is pressuring Cairo and Amman to return their envoys to Israel following the recent progress achieved in the peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

The daily said that the two states are coordinated and may promote their current Charges D'Affaires in Tel Aviv to the post of ambassadors.

Late last month, reliable Jordanian sources informed Al Bawaba that the government had decided in principle to return back its ambassador to Tel Aviv. According to these sources, the Jordanian move aims at providing further support to the US-backed Middle East peace plan - the "road map". The envoy is expected to return "soon," the sources disclosed.

Egypt and Jordan lowered their diplomatic representation in Israel in late 2000 in protest at what they saw as Israel's excessive use of force against Palestinians in the fighting that began in September that year.(Albawaba.com)
