Hizbullah has stockpiled 40,000 rockets near the southern Lebanese border with Israel and is training fighters to use rockets capable of reaching Tel Aviv, the Times of London reported on Wednesday. The report comes nearly three years after Israel, partially in attempt to disarm the group, fought a war against Hizbullah that left 1,191 Lebanese and 43 Israeli civilians dead.
According to United Nations, Hizbullah and Israeli officials, the Shiite group is stronger today than it was at the outset of the 2006 Lebanese war.
The Times of London also reported Hizbullah fighters are training in the use of both ground-to air missiles and anti-aircraft missiles.
In July, Hizbullah chief Hassan Nasrallah warned that if Israel initiated attacks on the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hizbullah stronghols, his group would strike Tel Aviv in retaliation. Meanwhile, the deputy head of Israeli Northern Command, Brigadier-General Alon Freidan, said the ceasefire could “explode at any minute.”
