It has been reported that Egypt and Jordan have signed a preliminary accord to build an overland natural gas pipeline from the El Arish in Egypt to Aqaba on the Red Sea. It is expected that the pipeline accord will receive final approval from the Egyptian government next week.
Mbendi.com said the pipeline is the first stage of a $1 billion deal signed by Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria in January 2001 to export Egyptian natural gas to markets in the Middle East and Europe through two pipelines.
Earlier in May, Jordan’s Energy Minister Wael Sabri said that chances were improving of an accord with BP-Amoco to build the Egypt-Jordan gas pipeline as recent Jordan gas finds were probably insufficient – Albawaba.com
