Israel’s Army Radio reported Thursday that British Prime Minister Tony Blair has refused to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon during a stopover in England on his upcoming trip to the US next week.
The radio reported that the official reason given by Blair's office was that his busy schedule made a meeting with Sharon impossible.
But the real motivation, according to the report, was the “fear of a possible lawsuit against the Israeli leader in a British court, like that submitted against former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet.”
A senior aide to Sharon, Zalman Shoval, said that "It could be that someone pointed out to Blair that now is not the time (to meet Sharon) for domestic PR reasons." – Albawaba.com
