Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed will visit the United States in October to become the first Bangladeshi leader to undertake an official trip to Washington, a report said Wednesday.
The Daily Star newspaper said the two-day visit, at the invitation of President Bill Clinton, would start October 17th.
However, a spokesmen in the prime minister's office refused to make any comment on the report.
Clinton extended the invitation during his brief visit to Bangladesh in March this year -- the first trip by a US president since the country's independence in 1971.
The report said Dhaka and Washington have already started consultations to prepare the visit.
Sheikh Hasina would be in New York to participate in the United Nations Millennium Summit early next month, official sources earlier said.
She is scheduled to address the September 6th-8th summit, which some 80 heads of state or government are expected to attend.
She will also reportedly hold meetings on the sidelines of the summit with leaders including Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Pakistan's General Pervez Musharraf -- DHAKA (AFP)
