Gulf for Good announces that registration is now open for the charity organisation’s exciting challenge in the foothills of the Himalayas between May 15th and 23rd 2009.
Dubbed “the Himalayan Panorama Adventure”, this charity challenge will raise funds to renovate an education and vocational skills centre and provide a mobile hospital “Smile on Wheels” to serve the marginalized children of the Delhi slums.
Enthusiastic participants from across the Middle East are invited to join the testing 5-day trek covering some 70km through terraced fields, orchards, forests, villages and monasteries, all with a stunning Himalayan backdrop.
G4G Co-Founder and Chairman, Brian Wilkie said the Himalayan Panorama Adventure is going to be a truly superb challenge. No hiking experience is necessary and anyone in good shape can take part.
“Rated at a hard fitness level and accompanied by a local team of experienced guides, a major objective of this charity challenge is to bring together people of all backgrounds to experience and explore this exceptional and remote part of India and Nepal, push their own limits and raise money for a very worthy cause,” he said.
Wilkie adds that to really enjoy the trip it is important that people start training now!
“G4G challenges are not holidays, so you do need to consider that you will not be getting 5-star facilities – although we expect that you’ll have a 5-star experience,” he said. “Challengers will walk between 8 and 18 km each day, including some steep terrain, so building up walking stamina is key,” he adds.
Camping with sweeping views of the mountains and valleys, reaching the highest point of Sandakpu (3,634m) and passing through the Singalila National Park will allow participants to see this fascinating region from a viewpoint rarely experienced by ordinary tourists. Every chance to visit villages, monasteries and the ubiquitous teahouses will allow participants to interact with local people.
Deborah Burnes, G4G Charity Governor added, “We always aim to incorporate a visit to the charity that challenger funds are supporting, because this not only helps to build a connection with the cause, but it also shows our participants exactly whose lives they are transforming for the better. Seeing the mobile hospital in action in the Delhi slums will undoubtedly be a highlight of the challenge.”
