Middle East Broadcasting Centre (MBC), the leading television channel in the region, announced the re-launch of MBC4 to focus on programming that will address the needs of the modern Arab woman. In its new format, MBC4 will present highly popular television series and talk shows, as well as programmes which will premiere for the first time in the region.
The re-launch has generated a lot of excitement in the broadcast industry, prompting this comment from Mohammed Al Mulhem, Group Director of Marketing, Public Relations, and Commercial at MBC: “The Arab woman in our day and age has achieved a level of intellectual and cultural sophistication that the media must cope with in terms of superior programming. MBC4 responds to that challenge and provides a far superior programming bundle that exposes the modern Arab woman to the best of what the West has to offer, making her aware of the issues affecting women all over the world, and at the same time enabling her to take an active and important part in shaping the role of women in Arab society.”
With MBC4's landmark re-launch, Arab women in the region can enjoy, for the first time broadcast of Western television programmes designed to enhance their viewing pleasure and upgrade the quality of television programming in the region.
Tim Riordan, Director of Channels, spoke on this occasion, saying “The Oprah Winfrey Show on MBC4 has been a big hit among young Saudi women and we decided to build the schedule around it. We have therefore bought in some hit reality shows which will interest this audience; shows such as the original Starting Over series, Super Nanny and The Swan 2, the ultimate makeover show. Then we have another great chat show host in Dr. Phil who, like Oprah, tackles women’s issues in an engaging but responsible manner. Add all our great drama and comedy series and I am confident that we have a winning formula for our target audience”.
MBC4 is currently airing brand new episodes from the 20th season of Oprah, the television series that has captured the largest amount of viewers over the past 10 years. Another popular series, Buffy now on its third and final season, is being broadcast every week from Saturday through Wednesday.
New episodes of the talk show Dr. Phil are also being broadcast, along with the program that has captivated a large number of Arab women, The Swan. The third series of the exciting and exhilarating television series 24 is being aired for the first time on MBC4. And to further enhance the viewing pleasure of its target audience, MBC4 will broadcast a variety of new, exciting and highly entertaining television series presented for the first time in the Arab world, including American Princess, Tru Calling, and Super Nanny.
The revitalized programming line-up is only the start of exciting new changes on MBC4, which is determined in its pursuit to be the premiere channel of choice for the modern Arab woman.
