A senior official at the UAE Red Crescent Society has said that the RCS will spend Dh3.1 million on its humanitarian operations during the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
Saleh Al Mulla, assistant secretary general for external affairs, said that this budget allocation would be used abroad to assist poor Muslim families during Ramadan, offering them iftar, or fast-breaking meals, and Eid clothing.
He said the overseas operations, which will cover 25 countries, would also include distributing zakat, or alms, to those needy Muslims.
Mulla was quoted by the Emirates’ official news (WAM) as saying that the RCS had earmarked Dh1 million for the iftar meals, another million for zakat, Dh100,000 for Eid clothing and Dh1 million for charity work in Palestine.
The RCS has been busy for the last two months, assisting hordes of shelterless Afghan refugees clustered at the borders of Iran and Pakistan.
The society even reached the displaced Afghans in the capital Kabul to supply them with food, medicine and tents – Albawaba.com
