ICDL GCC Foundation, the governing body of the International Computer Driving License (ICDL) program in the Gulf region, has announced that Ras Al Khaima Education Zone has endorsed its IT literacy program for 3051 teachers. An accreditation agreement in this regard was signed recently between the two parties under the patronage and presence of Shaikh Saud bin Saqer Al Qasimi, RAK Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler.

Commenting on the ICDL accreditation, Abdulla Ali Masabbeh, Director, Ras Al Khaima Education Zone, said, “We have been committed to maintaining a high standard of education across the Emirate of Ras Al Khaima. Endorsing the ICDL program is a result of the dedicated efforts of the management to enhance the quality of IT training provided at the zone. ICDL is regarded as a benchmark in IT education and we look forward to extending the benefits of this accreditation to our students.”

Jamil Ezzo, Director General, ICDL GCC Foundation, said, “Teachers play a very important role in the spread of IT literacy and in transforming education in our region. With the implementation of the ICDL IT literacy program in Ras Al Khaima Education Zone, teachers will become more resourceful and empowered with access to the latest educational practices and domain content. It is essential that both educators and students are empowered with fundamental IT skills to advance the knowledge capital in the region. Ras Al Khaima Education Zone will be a valuable addition to ICDL’s increasing number of training centers, providing computer training of international standards to the various sections of society.”

Ras Al Khaima Education Zone has taken the initiative to provide its teachers with all the facilities required for ICDL training and testing. Following the ICDL accreditation, all the teachers at the education zone are expected to pursue the ICDL certification.

Ras Al Khaima Education Zone and ICDL GCC Foundation have a common goal of improving the quality of lives of people by bridging the digital gap. ICDL GCC Foundation was created to manage the ICDL program in the GCC states, and has since been relentlessly striving to spread IT literacy and competency, by working directly with government organisations and policymakers. The foundation recognises the pivotal role that teachers and parents play in developing IT skills of students.

“Ras Al Khaima has been developing at a steady pace, especially in the recent years. The emirate is attracting investments in all sectors, which is reflected in the favourable economic progress it has achieved. A growth in IT literacy will prove to be a further boost in the all round development of the emirate, and this is where Ras Al Khaima Education Zone can play a significant role,” said Ezzo.

ICDL certifies that the holder has knowledge of the essential concepts of IT and is able to use a personal computer and common computer applications at a recognised level of competence. The ICDL program is open to everyone and is designed in such a manner that it ensures equal and fair access to all people.
