At least 130 people were killed in airstrikes on Syria`s Raqqa province which is currently under the control of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, hospital staff told The Anadolu Agency on Wednesday.

Fifty more people were injured in the airstrikes, and they were treated at the hospital, the staff member said.

The Syrian Revolution General Commission reported that at least 87 people were killed by airstrikes in the Syrian city of Rakka -- about 160 kilometres east of Aleppo --one of ISIL's strongholds in the country.

A large number of women and children were reportedly killed in the airstrikes, and more than 100 civilians were treated in hospitals.

More than 15,000 women and girls have been killed in Syria since the civil war began in 2011, while around 2,500 women are still detained or missing, the Syrian Network for Human Rights said on November 25.
