Officine Panerai presents the Radiomir Titanio - 47 mm watch, a Special Edition of
great historical value that represents the reissue of the legendary Radiomir watch.
Developed as a prototype in 1936 and produced starting from 1938, the Radiomir watch
was the first professional scuba diving watch in history. Worn by the commandos of
the Italian Navy, this watch was the protagonist of remarkable exploits and paved
the way for a new speciality in the watch-making field, in recent years becoming the
star of international auctions featuring vintage model and making the name Officine
Panerai known throughout the world.
Created in an edition of only 12 pieces, the new Radiomir watch is aimed at
collectors, lovers of exclusivity and history enthusiasts. The black background of
the dial underlines the highly-luminescent indexes and three hands (hours, minutes
and small seconds). The cushion-shaped, 47 mm case has a thin round bezel and wire
lugs. In contrast to the historical models, the lugs are not welded but rather
removable thanks to an Officine Panerai patented system that makes it easy to
replace the strap. The screw-down adjusting and winding crown has a truncated cone
shape making the watch water-proof to a depth of up to 10 bar (100 meters).
The case in titanium – a metal lighter, more anallergic and more resistant to
corrosion than the stainless steel of the historical models – houses a highly
exclusive, in-house movement: the OP XXVII calibre developed on a Minerva base. With
the main-plate and the Maillechort bridges, this large calibre (16 ¾ lignes) has 18
jewels, a balance wheel (18,000 alternations/hour) with adjusting screws and a
spring with Phillips terminal bend. The spring is bent by hand by skilled craftsmen
in order to ensure the concentric unwinding of the spring itself, indispensable to
its regularity and precision. Lastly, the sophisticated swan’s neck device permits
micrometrical adjustment of the length of the spring.
Identified by the reference PAM00349, the new Radiomir watch also has a strap in
alligator leather with a trapeze-shaped titanium buckle and will be sold exclusively
at Officine Panerai Boutiques.
