Qatar’s Appeals Court upheld on Sunday a five-year jail sentence against Iraqi national Adel Fahd Janeed, who was convicted of hijacking a Qatar Airways plane last September 14, reported the Gulf Times newspaper.
The plane had 144 passengers on board.
Janeed hijacked the plane while on flight from Doha to Amman. The hijack ended peacefully at Ha’il airport in Saudi Arabia where Janeed surrendered and no passengers were hurt.
The court upheld the Upper Criminal Court’s ruling, which sentenced the accused to five years in jail, minus the period he had already spent in custody, said the paper.
The public prosecutor had charged Janeed with “making threats of death or severe injury and kidnapping people whose lives were at a risk of death or severe injury.”
The hijacker had entered Qatar illegally from Saudi Arabia.
He was arrested by the security forces the same day he crossed over without a passport or any other travel document.
An electrician, Janeed was charged for the offence and was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment and a fine – Albawaba.com
