Qatar and Nepal are working on several bilateral agreements to further boost “the best of political and diplomatic relations” existing between the two countries, reported the Gulf Times on Thursday.

Talking to the press on the first anniversary of the establishment of a Nepali embassy in Qatar, Ambassador Shyamananda Suman said a civil aviation pact had already been initialed.

The fact that Qatar Airways has a daily service from Doha to Kathmandu even without such an agreement is a mark of the “excellent” relations between the two countries, the ambassador remarked.

Another agreement regulating the labor supply by Nepal would be signed soon. “It is in the final stages,” he said.

There are estimated to be more than 25,000 Nepalese in Qatar, 90 percent of whom are laborers.

Negotiations are also underway to establish a mechanism for consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries, Suman said.

Besides these, the other pacts in the pipeline include an agreement on economic and technical cooperation, another on the promotion and protection of investment in each other’s country, and one on avoidance of double taxation.

Both sides are working on these agreements, and “hopefully”, these would be concluded “in the not so distant future,” the ambassador said.

Doha and Kathmandu are also working on an agreement on exchanges of visits by high dignitaries – Albawaba.com
