ALBAWABA- Today marks the inauguration of the world's largest horticultural exhibition in Qatar, known as "Expo 2023 Doha for Horticulture."
The event, featuring participation from around 80 countries, anticipates a global attendance of over 3 million visitors. This expo is significant as it represents Qatar's inaugural venture into hosting an international horticulture event in the Middle East and North Africa.
Running for 179 days until March 28, 2024, this "Category A" world expo, set in a desert climate region, revolves around the theme "Green Desert, Better Environment." It encompasses four core sub-themes: modern agriculture, technology and innovation, environmental awareness, and sustainability.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar's Amir, presided over the inauguration ceremony, attended by dignitaries such as UAE President Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed and the President of Uzbekistan, along with representatives of many countries.
The Expo's main building, executed by the Public Works Authority "Ashghal," entered the Guinness World Records before its commencement, recognized for having the world's largest green surface, covering approximately 4,031 square meters.
Designed as a showcase for high horticultural standards in a hot climate region, the project symbolizes a green oasis within a desert.
Cultivated with plants like Bougainvillea, Dahlia, and green grass, the main building sets the stage for Expo 2023 Doha, poised to captivate global visitors with advanced technological innovations while providing participating countries a platform to showcase their cultures, technological advancements, and unique perspectives on a world stage.
