Afghan fighter Khan Mohammad, who was imprisoned in the United States, arrived in Jalalabad on January 21, 2025, following his release as part of a prisoner exchange deal brokered by Qatar.

ALBAWABA- Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the successful facilitation of a prisoner exchange between the United States and Afghanistan. 

The exchange saw the release of two American citizens in return for the release of an Afghan national. However, further details regarding the swap have not been disclosed. 

Afghan fighter Khan Mohammad, who was imprisoned in the United States, arrived in Jalalabad on January 21, 2025, following his release as part of a prisoner exchange deal brokered by Qatar. 

The Taliban government confirmed that, in return for Mohammad's release, two American citizens held in Afghanistan were freed. 

The deal marks a significant diplomatic development between the United States and Afghanistan. 

Mohammad spoke to the media upon his arrival, reflecting on the deal, which comes just one day after the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump.
