The head of the PLO's political department, Farouq Qaddoumi, has said that the regional situation has caused the delay in the summit between Syrian President Bashar Al Assad and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
In an interview with the Kuwaiti Arabic daily, Al Rai Al Aam, cited by Qatari News Agency (GNA), the official said that the summit might be held anytime, and that the progress in Palestinian-Syrian relations made it unnecessary to exert much effort on preparations for the meeting.
Qaddoumi requested that Arab and Islamic countries support Palestinian Intifada.
"Arabs and Muslims should give support in the form of weapons, financial assistance and by opening the door for volunteers to defend the Palestinian nation,” he said.
He pointed out that the situation in Palestine was very critical and that “it is in a state of war.” – Albawaba.com
