ALBAWABA - Russian President Vladimir Putin made a first ever visit to Kursk Region since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022.

During his visit, Putin stressed that the Russian army should defeat the Ukrainian army in the Kursk Region quickly and conduct a regional security zone there.

The Russian president was scheduled to attend an economic summit in his Novo-Ogaryovo residence, but Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS that the meeting was postponed due to changes in the schedule.

The Kursk Region should be "fully liberated" and the situation along the border must go back to normal. "And, of course, we also need to think about creating a security zone along the state border in the future," according to TASS.

Russian Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov confirmed on Tuesday that 86 percent of Kursk Region is now under the Russian army control, RT reported.

During the past five days, Russia’s ‘North’ military grouping was able to control 24 settlements and 259 square kilometers of the region, Gerasimov added. In some parts, Putin forces have advanced and crossed into Ukraine’s Sumy Region.
