Russian president Vladimir Putin congratulated Germany’s new chancellor, Angela Merkel on her election success on Tuesday, inviting her to visit Russia in the future.
“I hope we can continue dialogue and, using this occasion, I would like to invite you to the Russian Federation,” Putin said, according to <i>Mosnews</i>.
The two recently met in Berlin where they confirmed their aspirations towards increasing cooperation between Germany and Russia.
Putin had warm relations with Germany's outgoing chancellor, Gerhard Schroeder.
The Russian president added that he was confident that cooperation between the two countries would be enhanced for the benefit of Europe's security and economic interests.
