Award-winning jewellery retailer Pure Gold Jewellers posted an encouraging 20% sales increase in the first quarter this year compared to last quarter 2009 at the Abu Dhabi International Airport. The increase was based on sales at the three terminals where Abu Dhabi Duty Free operates comparing 2009's fourth quarter sales with first quarter 2010 results.

According to Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC), duty free sales at Abu Dhabi International Airport, increased by 26.1% in the first quarter of 2010 with passenger numbers up by +13.8%, over Q1 2009.

"We are pleased to announce an increase in jewellery sales at our Abu Dhabi International Airport travel retail outlets in the first quarter of 2010. This has been due to the growing number of tourists visiting the UAE capital as well as an increase on the number of transit passengers, and of course due the return of consumer confidence in buying jewellery," said Karim Merchant, CEO and Managing Director of Pure Gold Jewellers.

Pure Gold Jewellers operates the gold and diamond jewellery stores in the three terminals covered by Abu Dhabi Duty Free. The exclusive partnership assured visitors entering and leaving the capital with affordable price, quality, design and impeccable service.

Huraiz bin Huraiz, Chief Commercial Officer of Abu Dhabi Airport Company, commented:

"Abu Dhabi Airports Company has been working with Pure Gold as its exclusive Gold and Jewellery concessionaire since 2008 and we are extremely pleased that, in that time, a continued and corresponding rise in Abu Dhabi International's passenger traffic has also translated into encouraging sales growth for one of our key and valued business partners."

Pure Gold Jewellers offers a wide range of gold, diamond, pearl and colored-stoned jewellery at Abu Dhabi International Airport, as well as high-street and shopping mall outlets across the UAE.
