A soldier and a police officer were killed over the weekend in the latest round of violence blamed on armed Islamic extremists, according to various local media reports Sunday.
One soldier was killed and three others wounded on Saturday when a bomb exploded as army troops combed the El-Allia mountains, close to Skikda, around 500 kilometers east of the capital of Algiers, Sawt Al-Ahrar reported.
In the meantime, a police officer was also killed on Saturday by a group of five armed Islamists as he was leaving his house in Azeffoun, near Tizi-Ouzou, some 110 kilometers east of Algiers, Ech-Chourouk stated.
Three Islamists were killed by the army elsewhere, as troops moved through the Ammal forest, between Bouira and Boumerdes, about 50 kilometers east of Algiers, Authentique daily reported, however provided no details as to when the killings actually took place. (Albawaba.com)
