Syrian President Bashar Assad has called on all Syrians to join in a “collective prayer” for rainfall next Friday, said the Daily Star.
The prayer, according to the daily, will take place at the Omayyad Mosque in downtown Damascus and coincides with the state’s official celebrations of the Nov. 16 coup d’etat that brought the late president Hafez Assad to power 31 years ago.
Bashar Assad is going to join in the prayer with his subjects accompanied by members of his family, his brother Maher Assad, and members of the Miro government.
The practice, called for annually by the late Assad, is designed to help Muslims unite in asking for salvation, the paper added, noting that similar prayers would be made throughout churches the following Sunday – Albawaba.com
