Young Egyptian wives who obsess about male pop singers are causing their jealous husbands heartaches that are breaking up marriages, according to the London-based Arabic daily Al Sharq Al Awsat.

"Attempts by the marriage official, Mohammed Abdel Rahman, have failed to bring about reconciliation between a young husband and his wife, who greatly admired the singer Mohammed Fuad, and who spent days and nights listening to him, hung his pictures on the walls of their house and bought all of his albums," said the daily, adding that the young husband viewed his wife's behavior a betrayal that deserved divorce.

The daily cited the judge as saying that he sat for a similar case after the latest concert held by the Iraqi singer Kathem Al Saher at Marina.

The judge issued a divorce document after the concert for a husband who couldn't tolerate his wife's words of love for Saher during the performance.

On the second day of the same concert, another wife filed for divorce, claiming that her husband had hit and insulted her because she whispered words of love for Saher while watching the concert on the TV in the presence of her husband.

Another case of divorce and violence against a wife took place one week after Saher's concert at Al Sahel police station, where a 42-year-old woman claimed that her husband had broken her arm because she expressed admiration for the Iraqi singer - Albawaba.com
