South Koreans elected liberal ruling party candidate Roh Moo-hyun as president on Thursday, exit polls indicated.
Exit polls from all major broadcasters show Roh beat conservative opposition candidate Lee Hoi-chang in a closely fought election that had become a referendum on how to handle South Korea's unpredictable communist neighbour.
According to Reuters, the National Election Commission will begin issuing the results of vote-counting from around 9:00 p.m. (1200 GMT) in an election that ended virtually in a dead heat. (Albawaba.com)
