At least five people were killed and seven others seriously injured when a Sudanese military plane bombed a village in southern Sudan on Monday, a Roman Catholic Church official said.
"The Russian-made Antonov plane bombed a village on outside Kapoeta, killing five people and seriously injuring seven others," Teodi Lotto, an official at the Nairobi-based office of the southern Sudanese Roman Catholic Torit diocese, told AFP.
"The wounded have been airlifted by the International Committee of the Red Cross to Lokkichoggio Hospital in northwest Kenya for treatment," Lotto said, after reaching Torit diocese officials at Loki in southern Sudan.
Rebel Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) spokesman Samson Kwaje told the news agency that their operatives in the field had confirmed the latest bombing, but were yet to provide him with details.
This is the second bombing in southern Sudan in a week. On June 23, the SPLM/A claimed that at least four people were killed and seven others seriously wounded when a Russian-made Antonov plane military plane bombed the southern Sudanese town of Malwalkon. (Albawaba.com)
