DUBAI: Some of the finest amateur golfers in the region participated in the Dulsco Classic, which was played as both an individual and team event at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club over the weekend. Playing on three-fourth handicap, the team format was a team of four alliances, with the two best scores on each hole counting towards the team total.
Ninety golfers teed off in the 1pm shot gun start of the event organized by Dulsco for the sixth time for its valued customers and invited guests, who included CEOs, corporate executives and decision makers.
In the individual category, Pieter Van Wyk and Dileep Kumar won honors in their respective divisions. Pieter Van Wyk took first place with 34 points in the Div A (handicap 0-14), Babu Subramanian was placed second with 30 points while Wayne Sheridan walked away with the third prize scoring 29 points.
“I have been a customer of Dulsco for a long time and it is great to see that they support the people who have contributed to their growth – this is what makes this day special. I have played at every Dulsco Classic since it started, and I have some great friends and great golf partners,” said Pieter Van Wyk, Director – Supply Chain and Operations, Transglobal Resources.
Dileep Kumar won the first place in the Div. B (handicap 15-36) with 39 points followed by Robin Roddricks with 33 points. Qamar Rasheed, was third with 30.

In second place, with 77 points, were James Binns, Wayne Sheridan, Ali Al Shabibi and Qamar Rasheed while the team of Darryl Peterson, Pieter Van Wyk, Robin Roddricks and Aseem Aziz with 76 points were third.
Van Wyk picked up three prizes -- Nearest-the-pin (Hole no. 8) Div. A; first place in the Individual category Division A (handicap of 0-14) scoring 34 points, and was also on the 2nd runner up team in the team championship.
Qamar Rasheed won the nearest-the-pin (Hole No.14) Div. B; 2nd runner up in the individual event in Div. B (handicap 15-36) scoring 30 points, and was on the 1st runner up team in the team championship.
“This year was an especially exciting Dulsco Classic, as we had more players, a new venue, and a greater prize spread. The quality of the players was very good: serious golfers playing in a serious format. Next year we hope to see more ladies joining us on the course,” said Bala Kumar, Director, Dulsco HR Solutions.
“We have achieved our goal of making this tournament a fun event,” concluded Dulsco Managing Director John Neale. He thanked all the golfers who took part in the tournament and promised that Dulsco would be running the tournament for years to come.
