perfumes really can affect your mood according to uae producer
Recent media reports of links between perfume and depression have been met with agreement from one the UAE's largest perfume producers.
Results of scientific research at a Middle East university claiming women who wear too much perfume may be suffering from depression have hit the news worldwide.
The study showed that the sense of smell appears to be impaired in people with depression, causing them to use more scent.
And the chairman of UAE-based Swiss Arabian Perfumes, Hussein Adamali, explained the results match up with their own research and experience, but perhaps often for different reasons.
He said: "The story of the link between increased perfume use and depression has captured the attention of the world's media, and it only serves to underline what we have believed all along – that perfume use has deep underlying emotional factors.
"Where the academic results suggest that those depressed may have impaired smell. We at Swiss Arabian believe that, while this may indeed be the case, many will use perfumes in an attempt to lift their mood.
"Our experience shows there is an inextricable emotional link between perfume use and moods, and we believe it would be likely that women using more perfume are not only doing this due to a reduction in any ability to smell, but also as a simple and effective method of improving their own mood.
"Aromatherapy has been an extremely popular method of making people feel better since ancient times and we believe the wearing of your favourite perfume is one of the best forms of aromatherapy around."
Smell is already used by retailers and service providers due to its effect on mood and memory, with retailers and salons using aromas to induce customers to buy certain products or encourage repeat business.
