Individuals and establishments who took part in last year's “Clean Up The World” campaign, organized by the Dubai Municipality were honored by the civic body, in the framework of its program to mark the fifth National Environment Day, according to Khaleej Times.
Mohammed Saeed Hareb, First Assistant to the Director-General of the Dubai Municipality, Hussain Nasser Lootah, Assistant Director General for Environment and Public Health Affairs and Hassan Makki, Head of the Waste Services Section, presented them with Certificates of Appreciation and mementos, during a ceremony that took place at the Dubai Municipality Staff Club in Al Garhoud on Monday.
11,060 volunteers and over 200 organizations participated in the “Clean Up The World” operation, held from October 30 to November 2 last year. They succeeded to collect over 2,300 tons of waste.
Among the organizations which extended their help to the program were Dubai Ports & Customs Corporation, Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Civil Defense, Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa), Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (Jafza) in addition to the volunteers from the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) and the Dubai Women's Association.
Speaking before the gathering, Lootah stated that the number of participants for the campaign has been increasing each year since it was first launched in 1997. (Albawaba.com)
