Both terminals at Paris-Orly airport were evacuated early Saturday for "security reasons" after anonymous threats were received, airport officials said, but the security alert turned out to be a false alarm.

Air France suspended all internal flights in and out of Orly and a crisis cell was set up, but after a thorough search of the airport, passengers were allowed back into the terminals just before noon (1000 GMT).

Some 6,000 passengers were affected by the security alert.

"We regularly receive these sorts of calls, which are all treated seriously," an airport spokesman said.

The airport has been on a heightened state of alert since the September 11 attacks on the United States -- PARIS (AFP)
