Israeli troops patrolling the border with the Gaza Strip Wednesday shot dead a Palestinian who was armed with large knives, Israel Radio reported.
It said the troops intercepted the man, along with a second suspected activist, crouching as the two approached the border fence near Kibbutz Nahal Oz in the western Negev.
The force then opened fire, killing one of the men. The other escaped, and it was not known if he was hit.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian convicted of killing an Israeli soldier nine years ago stabbed the warden of Nafha Prison in the Negev and two other guards on Wednesday.
The incident occured after the prisoner was brought for a disciplinary hearing before the warden.
The prisoner, a member of the Hamas, was identified as Hani Jabour, convicted in 1993 for the killing of an Israeli soldier near the West Bank city of Hebron.
During the hearing, Jabour grabbed the warden and stabbed him twice with a sharp poker. An officer and a prison guard nearby attempted to restrain Jabour, and they were also stabbed, sustaining light injuries, Haaretz reported. (Albawaba.com)
