A special Israeli army unit Monday assassinated the 35-year-old Wa’el Al-Reyahi in the Balata refugee camp to the east of Nablus city. Palestinian sources told PIC that a disguised army unit fired at Reyahi, who was wanted by the occupation authorities over the past couple of years, leading to his instant death.
Meanwhile, Israel's Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom has lashed out at PLO Chief and Fatah candidate for the Palestinian presidential elections Mahmoud Abbas for reasserting his commitment to the so-called "Palestinian national constants."
Abbas has reiterated his determination that any peace settlement with Israel will include full Israeli withdrawal from the territories occupied in 1967, including Jerusalem, as well a resolution of the refugee plight based on UN resolution 194.
"At a time when there is perhaps a great atmosphere of hope here in the region and in the world as a whole, harsh statements such as this are not encouraging," Shalom was quoted as saying. Shalom said Israel couldn't write off Abbas's comments as mere campaign rhetoric. "You can't speak of continuing the struggle in all forms, or to sell the illusion of the refugees, nor to speak of Jerusalem in that manner."
