Israeli forces killed an unarmed Palestinian who crossed into Israel from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip on Thursday, an Israeli army spokesman said. The incident marked the first fatality along the Israel-Gaza Strip frontier since a June 19 calm.
The army spokesman said soldiers in the area saw the man approaching and fired at him after he refused their calls to stop. They later saw that the man was unarmed, the spokesman said.
Israeli troops operating in the West Bank late Wednesday opened fire and killed a Hamas man attempting to flee arrest. Palestinians said two people were hurt in the incident in Kufr Dan, near the northern city of Jenin. They and two others were arrested, they said.
Earlier, Israeli forces raided the city hall of the West Bank town of Nablus, confiscating five computers as part of an ongoing crackdown on Hamas' civilian and social network in the West Bank. This week, Israeli troops have raided and shut down various Nablus facilities with links to Hamas.
