An Israeli policeman was stabbed in Jerusalem on Sunday morning but managed to shoot his Palestinian attacker to death. The policeman was evacuated to a local hospital in moderate-to-serious condition after being stabbed in the neck.

The attacker was apparently a 40-year-old "mentally disturbed" man with a history of assault, according to Israeli media reports. He had served five years in an Israeli jail for stabbing Israelis in the past.

Meanwhile, Israeli troops wounded Saturday evening a Palestinian civilian in the Nablus city refugee camp of Balata, Palestinian medical sources said, cited by WAFA news agency.

City medics added that Ali Maraheel, aged 25, was shot with a shrapnel in the right hand when Israeli soldiers opened heavy fire against the civilians' houses.

Early Sunday, Israeli soldiers stormed Hebron city area of Wady Katila, and placed a mobile checkpoint to the south of Qalandia checkpoint near Jerusalem, witnesses and local sources said.

Witnesses told the Palestinian news agency that the Israeli soldiers swept into Wady Katila, conducting a tight search campaign mostly in the house of Marwan al-Qawasmeh.

Elsewhere, a 14-year-old Palestinian child died Sunday of wounds he sustained last week after being shot by Israeli soldiers in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, medical sources said.

European hospital sources in Rafah said that Saif al-Din Barhoum was shot in the head by Israeli soldiers on August 9th. (Albawaba.com)
