Cyprus can help so that all the initiatives for a peaceful settlement of the Palestinian question proceed to a final, just and lasting solution of the problem, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat said on Tuesday, after meeting at his office in Ramallah with Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Ioannis Kasoulides.
For his part, the Palestinian leader thanked Kasoulides for his visit, under the current circumstances, saying that the relations between the Palestinians and the Cyprus government "is an historical and very close relation."
Fifty nine per cent of Israelis support peace with the Palestinians and are in favor of a Palestinian state, Arafat stated, adding that "all the Cyprus governments made very strong and continuous efforts to achieve permanent peace in the Holy Land", CNA reported.
Kasoulides spoke about the "brotherly ties" between the people of Cyprus and the Palestinians and expressed Cyprus' "readiness to assist in all possible ways, so that peace prevails and the conditions of life and dignity prevail among all the peoples of this area". (Albawaba.com)
