A Palestinian with heart problems died after hours of waiting at an Israeli checkpoint near Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinian hospital sources told AFP Wednesday.

They said Sami Basleh, a 56-year-old suffering from heart problems and hypertension, was prevented from crossing the checkpoint overnight to go to Rafah hospital.

He was forced to spend almost two hours at the checkpoint, together with his family, who were only allowed to cross after Basleh died, said the report.

Despite a relative calm in the Palestinian lands, the Palestinian official news agency (WAFA) reported that the Israeli army shelled a Palestinian security post to the south of the Gaza city during an incursion. No injuries were reported.

The Palestinian agency also reported that an Israeli infantry unit entered the Palestinian Authority-ruled village of Kafr El Labad near Tulkarem and arrested two brothers, while tanks were surrounding the area.

The arrested were identified as Samer and Sameer Mansour – Albawaba.com
