Two children and two adults were killed and 42 others injured early Monday morning in Gaza City by Israeli shelling that hit two apartment buildings, said Ashraf al-Kidra, a member of the health services in Gaza.
Relief teams were looking for 12 to 15 members of a family who lived in the buildings. They fear that were buried under the rubble.
On Sunday, at least eleven civilians were killed, including women and children, in an Israeli air strike carried out on Gaza, said Palestinian doctors. The strike razed a two-storey building belonging to the Daloo family. The Palestinian death toll has climbed to over 80 since the Israeli operation started in Gaza last Wednesday.
Meanwhile, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said during a visit to Israel on Sunday: "We believe that war should be avoided and can be avoided," he told the press from Jerusalem.
"We fully support Israel's right to self-defense of Israel," said U.S. President Barack Obama during a press conference in Thailand, noting that the Jewish state had the right to defend itself against rocket attacks launched from the Gaza Strip. "No country in the world would tolerate missiles raining down" on its population, he said, adding that any effort to resolve the conflict in Gaza "begins with the fact that no missile is fired into Israeli territory."
