A Palestinian youth was apprehended Sunday by Israeli security forces as he allegedly attempted to set a bomb in a busy downtown district the coastal city of Haifa, reported The Jerusalem Post newspaper.
The youth, reportedly a Gaza resident, had an accomplice who escaped arrest and is reportedly fleeing north, said the paper.
Police have set out numerous roadblocks in the immediate area to cut off any avenues of escape, said the paper, citing Israel Radio.
Israeli security forces have issuing heightened warnings of possible attacks, including suicide bombers, shooting attacks, and kidnapping of soldiers, in the wake of the death of 28-year-old Rajai Abu Rajab, a key member of the Fateh military wing in Hebron on Friday.
Within the same context, the Islamic movement Hamas said Sunday that the movement has trained ten more suicide bombers to carry out attacks against Israel, said the paper.
According to West Bank Hamas head, Jamal Tawil, the ten were meant to act against "Israeli targets and provide a military balance to Israeli aggression."
Since the September 2000 eruption of the latest Palestinian uprising against 34 years of Israeli military occupation, the media has reported that Palestinians have killed at least 125 Israelis with weapons ranging from stones and knives to machineguns and car bombs.
