Palestinian political scientist, Abdul-Sattar Qassem, was freed late on Friday after being held since February for criticizing corruption in Yasser Arafat's administration, the Associated Press reported Saturday.
The political scientist told the agency that his release was the result of the efforts of "many mediators."
According to the agency, Qassem was first arrested in November for signing an anti-corruption manifesto.
He was released after 40 days, but was arrested again on February 18th and has been held ever since without charges in a jail in the West Bank town of Jericho.
Qassem, a political scientist at Najah University was among 20 intellectuals and legislators who asked their countrymen in the manifesto to fight the "tyranny and corruption" of the Palestinian Authority.
The manifesto held Arafat directly responsible for alleged misuse of funds.
Palestinian police arrested many of the signatories and pressured them to recant.
Most did and were released, said the agency - Albawaba.com
