U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was supposed to return to Ramallah to meet with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas today, 2nd April, according to Palestine News Network.

However, Abbas' announcement earlier Tuesday evening that Palestinian leadership would pursue membership at UN agencies directly conflicts with the agreements stipulated under the peace talks deal outlined last July.

“We are no longer traveling tomorrow,” a senior State Department official said shortly after Abbas’ announcement, according to Agence France Presse.

Kerry previously met with Netanyahu earlier this week to discuss the possibility of extending the peace talks, but then travelled back to Brussels for a scheduled meeting with the EU foreign ministers.
