Agence France Presse reported Monday that the Palestinian ambassador who died in an explosion in Prague on New Year's day was actually responsible for his own death.
The 56-year-old ambassador Jamal Al Jamal was allegedly holding an explosive in his hand when it detonated at his residence.
"An experimental blast carried out by experts confirms this theory," Prague police spokeswoman Andrea Zoulava told reporters, denying earlier allegations that a booby-trapped safe was the cause of the explosion.
"The explosive was not placed on the door or inside the safe and was not there to protect the safe," Zoulova added, emphasizing that the investigation was still in progress.
Jamal had only been posted to the Prague envoy position three months prior to his death.
