The death toll from record heavy rain and snow across Pakistan hit 95 with more than 30 missing, after a dam burst and washed away a number of villages, officials said.

At least 25 people were killed when the Shadi Kor dam was breached near the coastal town of Pasni in Baluchistan province late Thursday after a week of downpours. Residents said many more may have died.

Thirty bus passengers were also missing after their vehicle failed to reach the town, with a number of other car drivers in the area also unaccounted for, officials said.

Troops were sent to provide food and shelter for the two worst-hit villages. Road links to the area some 300 kilometers west of Karachi were swept into the sea, cutting it off from the outside world.

Weather officials said the length of the rainy spell, which began on Feburary 3, appeared to be a record for Pakistan and showed no sign of letting up.
