Israel’s military industries produce state of the art weaponry, especially in the air, armor, and electronics fields. Officials in Pakistan have voiced alarm that the most advanced Israeli military equipment may soon be in the hands of India. Reports are now circulating that Israel has signed deals of $2 Billion to supply state-of-the art electronic equipment to India. Reports have also mentioned Israel may supply India with the “Phalcon”, an Airborne Radar and Command & Control airplane which Israel originally developed for China.

India can defeat arms embargos with Israel

In addition to electronics, Israel’s defense industries also produce indigenous tanks, armored personnel carriers, rifles and artillery. Israel also has the capacity to produce spare parts for aircraft and other advanced weapons systems. Some estimates argue in the case of an alliance with India, Israel will be willing to provide such armaments and spare parts to India even in the face of international sanctions and embargo. This may lead India to spurn the current international pressures being directed at it, believing that Israel will help it overcome any restrictive measures.

International Concern

The Israel-India connection as a destabilizing factor is causing concern outside Pakistan as well. China has already warned Israel not to sell the “Phalcon” to India; when asked to comment on reports that Israel may sell the Phalcon AWACS system to India Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue told reporters: "We hope that the various countries will make their efforts to preserve stability and peace in South Asia”.
