Scores of Israeli jeeps and armoured vehicles moved on Sunday into the West Bank (WB) city of Nablus, Palestinian and Israeli security sources said. They added that at least 80 jeeps, backing several bulldozers, moved into Nablus city and conducted a wide search campaign while snipers took positions on the top roofs, specially in the Old City and the neighbourhood of Reafedia hospital.
According to WAFA, Israeli forces placed over 50,000 Palestinians under curfew in the center of the city and closed the main entrance in it, calling on via loudspeakers on what Israel called them "wanted" to hand themselves. Schools and a university in the city announced that they had canceled studies due to the curfew.
Meanwhile, the Spokesperson of the PA Presidency denounced the Israeli aggression in Nablus. He said in a statement, cited by WAFA, that the attack against Nablus is a violation of the trilateral summit (Abbas, Rice and Olmert) which asserted on truce in the West Bank as well as Gaza Strip.
He asserted that the Israeli operation in Nablus is an Israeli attempt to end the efforts of fixing the truce, and to jeopardize the Mecca agreement. He noted that such "aggression is an atrocious attack by armed to teeth troops against Palestinian civilians."
He called on the Israeli government to end its aggression in various parts of the Palestinian territories and urged the international community to intervene for ending the Israeli attack.
