The Iraq Independent Election Committee (IEC) announced Monday that 48,010 Iraqis residing in Iran had registered for voting at the January 30th Iraqi parliamentary elections.
In a communique issued on the occasion, a copy of which was faxed
to <i>IRNA</i>'s central office in Tehran, it read, "During the past seven
days more than 48,000 Iraqis referred to 12 registration centers in
six major Iranian cities, where they presented their Iraqi IDs and got
the special slips required for participation at the poll."
